Symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes.

Here are the most common symptoms of Type 1 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes occurs when the pancreas produces little or no insulin. This is due to an autoimmune response that prevents insulin-producing beta cells. That means that the body can’t convert sugar into energy, and starts to use fat reserves instead.

Symptoms include:

  • A high level of thirstiness
  • Increased tiredness
  • Increased appetite
  • Frequent need to urinate
  • Sudden, unexpected weight loss
  • Sudden vision changes
  • Bad breath (especially fruity odour)
  • Heavy breathing

Symptoms in children.

In children, these symptoms can occur quite suddenly while in adults, they can take longer to occur. However, if you or someone you know is experiencing these symptoms, you must immediately consult a doctor. Type 1 diabetes may be fatal if not treated.
